Our principle trainer, Jayne Pigford, had a decade in child protection social work following her social studies degree before training (an MSc) and setting up a practice in Gestalt psychotherapy in 2002 (see www.creativeleaps.co.uk).
Her therapy business (plus previous employment as a teacher in further education, a community worker and a school counsellor) has involved delivering local and international trainings for adults and young people, facilitating team building and conflict management in businesses and running a 'body awareness' dance class.
Jayne's interest in mindfulness began three decades ago when she started reading about Buddhism. Her practice and understanding really took off whilst travelling in Asia in 1995/6 and then whilst being in hospital for many months - and very much in the 'now' with a great appreciation of normal life - in 1998/9.
She's been training in Mindfulness since 2012, obtained her 'TD1' teaching qualification in 2014 with Drs Karen Neil and Patrizia Collard then completed a second weeks' teacher training with Surryacita (pen-name 'the Happy Buddha') at CIC Mindfulness in 2018. She recently completed her 'Mindfulness in Schools' training with Nott'm University's Dr Edward Sellard.
Jayne has been a guest speaker at Nottingham Mindfulness Group's weekly gatherings at Sobar Nottingham and led meditations & read poetry at the Mass Mindfulness Events in Nottingham in 2018 and '19. When she feels inspired or disturbed by events in the world she writes poems and has had several published in books and journals - along with articles in journals and magazines.
About Sarah:
Our second trainer, Sarah White, is a Specialist Chartered physiotherapist who graduated from Nottingham University in 1998. Her 17 years' experience includes fifteen years of specialisation in work with pain, including group-based treatments for chronic pain, stress and fatigue. Sarah has studied Acceptance and Commitment Therapy at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath under Dr Kevin Vowels who leads research in using acceptance and mindfulness approaches to pain management.
Sarah's training as a teacher in mindfulness has developed to level two with Helen Stephenson, Dr Karen Neil (at Mindful Medicine) and Dr Patrizia Collard (at Enter Mindfulness). Her current work is with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and with Citycare NHS Trust, providing mindfulness groups for those with long-term neurological conditions.
Like Jayne, Sarah is passionate about teaching Mindfulness and making it accessible to people of all ages. Sarah and Jayne both receive regular supervision from Dr Karen Neil of Mindfulmedicine, Nottingham.
